My health journey started with State Street Studio just over a year ago when my childhood friend saw me struggling terribly with family/ personal health issues along with the loss of my mother. I was lost in grief and was diagnosed with diabetes. My doctor got me on medication to get my diabetes under better control but I knew I had to make some changes. I committed to yoga for 1 hour twice a week for about 10 months and my grief began to lighten and my aches and pains were disappearing. Over the past few month’s , I have increased my workouts to 4-6 times a week and my weight, blood sugar and blood pressure have greatly improved. But most of all, the friendships, support and encouragement from all the instructors and other patrons at State Street Studio has been life changing. They have brought calm and focus back to my life. Thank you all so much!

After sitting at a desk for many years, I had knee pain and joint stiffness.  It was painful going up and down stairs and I had a lot of hip issues.  Doctors said I had arthritis and not much could be done.  I did a food sensitivity test and cut out foods that I was sensitive to.  I also started doing acupuncture once a month.  Those two things reduced inflamation and helped immensely, but I still had pain and hip issues. I also did yoga once or twice a week, but had to drive 45 minutes one way to participate.

State Street Studio now offers 14 classes a week.  The combination of yoga and weight training is amazing.  Then throw in Pilates and Cardio. I still get a little achy in my knees after long walks, but my recovery time is so much faster and it no longer hurts to go up and down stairs.  My hips no longer lock up after sitting or standing too long.  I am stronger, more tone and healthier than I have ever been in my life.

I have always worked out 3 – 5 days a week and usually in my own home.  The studio is a community and we encourage and support each other.  I didn’t think I would like working out with others, but it is way better than on your own.

I am so thankful to Robin for taking the risk and opening a studio in Onaway.  It has been successful and, for me, a game changer in my health and well being.

When I travel, I go to other yoga studios and gyms and nothing compares to what we have here in Onaway. 14 different class offerings a week and 8 different instructors. I do 2 – 3 classes a day because every day some form of strength training or cardio or pilates and yoga is offered. Great way to gain strength and flexibility. I have never been to a studio that is so warm and welcoming. State Street Studio is truly a community onto itself.

Thank you Robin and Tom for having the faith and vision to open your studio. You have made it successful with consistency and such a variety of class offerings. Every instructor offers modifications so all ages and fitness levels can participate in any of the classes.

If you have not already, check out the studio. Drop in and introductory offers available.

I have been coming to state street studio the last 2 years.  The benefits of taking yoga, HR Fit, and Zumba as well as pop up classes are well worth the cost.  Recently I went in for a bone density scan and my doctor called to say my bone density not only was good, but had increased in my hips and spine.  She told me “ whatever you’re doing-keep doing it.”My previous bone scan 2 years prior was not the best so you can imagine how happy I was to hear the results.   Thanks to State Street Studios for giving me so many options for great classes and the opportunity to put my health and well being as a number 1 priority in my life.

On my way to class today my Dr called to give me my bone density results.

She told me the best treatment for me right now is yoga and walking .

I’m going to be at your studio for a very long time.

I’m so excited to share this news. You are such a kind person and my experience

So far has been relaxing and rewarding .

Thank you so much

Robin

Fitness Coach

Welcome to our website, we appreciate you stopping by. I’m Robin Mantay, the proud owner of State Street Fitness & Yoga. My journey with yoga began back in 2005 when I was working as a massage therapist at a studio downstate. Not long after, I took on the role of manager there, and in 2013, became a certified yoga instructor. How lucky I was to again find something I so much enjoyed doing and had such a positive impact on others. Fast forward to 2020,  we made the exciting move to Onaway. We absolutely love our home and life here but just felt like something was missing—my yoga practice, a dedicated studio, and a sense of community. So, in January 2021, we took the plunge and opened our studio with just two yoga classes.

We now offer 14 regularly scheduled classes each week that include yoga, strength training, cardio and pilates.  All levels are welcome as there is something here for everyone.  Our amazing community fosters strong connections in this space. Catch up with old friends and make some awesome new connections all while finding a healthier version of yourself.
Outside of the studio we are blessed with 2 adult children and 2 amazing granddaughters. In the summers we enjoy the sunshine, friends and our time playing on Black Lake.

Helana

Fitness Coach

Hi, I’m Helana! Health and fitness have always been a part of who I am. I’ve been involved in sports and physical activity for as long as I can remember—it’s what keeps me energized and ready to enjoy the things I love.
In 2022, I began teaching at State Street Fitness & Yoga, and it’s been an amazing opportunity to bring something positive and uplifting to the community. I love seeing people gain confidence in their own skin, embrace their individuality, and grow stronger in every way.
You’ll find me leading HR Fit, Pilates, and my high-energy cardio class, HR Moves, where I sometimes add a little challenge and competition to keep things exciting!
Outside the studio, I’m all about outdoor adventures—kayaking, riding horses, and spending time with family are some of my favorite ways to stay active and connected.
Join me for a class—I can’t wait to move with you!

I am a Buffalo NY native transplanted to Michigan to settle down after living in five states in seven years because of my husband’s job. I have practiced yoga all over the country absorbing different cultures, methods and practices while loving every second of each!
I am a backpacking, canoeing, outdoor girl who loves to go on adventures with my husband and our son. I have been a hairdresser/barber for over 15 years, which being my main career; my goal is to own my own salon here in town one day.
Yoga really began to catch my attention when I was 17, practicing Bikram. I fell in love with warming up the body and seeing how far it would stretch after truly opening up. Not to mention the ‘yogic high’ is AMAZING!

I’ve been practicing yoga for 16 years. After a year of having my first child, being a stay-at-home mom and a military wife, I began to lose myself. My husband suggested I go to school for yoga and re-center myself. I signed for training at heartwood yoga institute in Bradenton, FL.
I graduated in 2019 and it really broadened my horizons for yoga. I received my YTT-200 along with my Ariel certification. In school we practice all types of postures (asanas), alignment with modifications, breath work (pranayama), Sanskrit lectures, philosophy, anatomy, reiki, sequencing, chakra studies and so much more! I can go on and on, but I just loved it!
I love all types of yoga, however, if I were to pick a few I would say; ashtanga, bikram, and vinyasa are my favorite. I also enjoy a nice yin class to really stretch everything out!
I thrive so much on educating my students and guiding them through their practice. I want them to understand and have them discover more about themselves through physical and internal practice for balance. But the most important thing is having some fun on the mat!
I will be a student for the rest of my life because the more I learn about Yoga the more I want to continue learning and educating!

So come meet me on the mat and get moving! I cannot wait to meet you!

Doris

Fitness Coach

I’ve exercised most of my adult life, with some lapses due to having and raising kids. Group fitness has always been my go-to because working out solo felt boring, making it hard to stick with. Being surrounded by like-minded people motivates and encourages me. I love the social aspect—some of my most cherished friendships started in group fitness classes.
At 55, while working full-time and caring for my daughter with special needs, I earned my first fitness certification. Teaching became my way to de-stress, stay fit, socialize, inspire others, and above all, have fun! Yes, I truly love working out—it’s fun for me!

Why State Street Fitness & Yoga?
When John and I moved from Kalamazoo, we left behind a schedule full of teaching anywhere from 2 to 15 classes per week, depending on the needs of the gyms we worked at. After settling into life in Millersburg, we realized something was missing—group fitness! Teaching, creating a safe and welcoming environment, and inspiring others had been such a big part of our lives that we had to find a way to bring it back. A friend introduced me to State Street, and when John and I met with Robin, we instantly connected. She was already looking to expand class offerings, so the timing was perfect. We fell in love with the studio’s vibe, and the rest is history. Robin and her team of instructors are incredible to work with—she listens to feedback and makes decisions that benefit the entire studio, but most importantly, the members. We’ve made new friendships and couldn’t be happier to be part of this amazing community!

I’ve been teaching group fitness for nine years, starting at several clubs in Southwest Michigan before moving to Huron Beach. Teaching never feels like work to me—I love connecting with people and sharing my passion for fitness. At State Street Fitness & Yoga, I teach Combat, Fit3, and Let’s Lift.
Before transitioning to fitness, I spent 30 years in Quality Assurance, working for Pharmacia, Pfizer, and Zoetis. Later, I moved into retail, managing and opening Sportsman’s Warehouse locations in Michigan and Wisconsin.
In my spare time, I love fishing, hunting, and spending time with family, especially on the beautiful shores of Lake Huron in the summer or the white sandy beaches of the Caribbean in the colder months. Recently, with a little coaxing from my wife, Doris, I gave pickleball a try—and like so many others, I’m hooked!

Marlene

Fitness Coach

Hello! My name is Marlene George and I’ll be in the studio to have the coffee ready on some mornings and greet you before classes begin.
I had been practicing gentle yoga on and off for about 4 years or so and with a little coaxing from my sister, became a member and added fitness to my schedule. My new routine was a nice addition to my free days of retirement. As the studio grew with new classes, Robin mentioned she might need some help, and I was happy to fill some of my free time, and take care of my mind, body and soul too!
My husband, Tim and I have a daughter, Teresa, and a son, John (and Erika). We have been blessed with four granddaughters and one grandson. We enjoy traveling, living on the lake and keeping up with all our family activities.
